Silence is the most powerful scream.

Ottawa is quiet now: no horns, partyiers or speeches. Dancers, signs and flags are gone: the streets silenced, cleansed and purged from the sounds and sights of dissidence.
Today, on February 19, 2022, the voice of freedom has been muzzled and taken down to the ground, taught a lesson of compliance by those with bigger and darker boots. The rigs are being removed in Ottawa now, the leaders arrested by a ruler who sits primly behind his line of enforcers, flicking his hair in disdain.
We will remember this chilly winter day. Only three weeks after the triumphant entrance of our heroes entering the capital full of good will and determination, today we watched patriots fall under the violent wave of big faceless men dressed all in black with bright yellow vests.
A Mohawk grandmother was left lying on the ground and a man who formerly protected the prime minister was arrested by his former colleagues. All for the right to bodily autonomy. All for the freedom to say what goes in our bodies.
Academics will analyze and writers will document this day. Canada has officially left behind her reputation as the quiet, unnoticed cousin of America. Tyranny is trending and the world is watching.
Tonight, we are silent, not out of obedience but out of sadness. Canada, true north strong and free, we stand on guard for thee. In tears.
Please check out my latest book: a poetry chapbook focused on the effects of the lockdowns on our society. I wrote this book all last year as I watched the insanity of lockdowns wreak havoc around me.
